Hiring an interior designer is an exciting step, but it can also come with a lot of questions. Whether you are beginning a renovation, building a custom home, or updating a residential or commercial space, having a clear understanding of the process and expectations from the outset creates confidence and sets the foundation for a successful project.
At Shanna Shryne Design, a Southern California based full-service interior design studio, we believe great design starts with trust, collaboration, and a shared vision. To help demystify the process, we’re answering some of the most common questions we hear from clients considering working with an interior designer.
This Q&A offers a closer look at our approach, our process, and what clients can expect when partnering with us.

How would you describe the Shanna Shryne Design approach?
Our approach is thoughtful, tailored, and deeply rooted in how a space should feel as much as how it looks. Every project begins with understanding our clients, their lifestyle, and how they want to live in their home or use their space.
We design spaces that are elevated yet livable, intentional yet effortless. While aesthetics matter, functionality, flow, and longevity are equally important. The result is interiors that feel cohesive, personal, and timeless rather than trend-driven or overly styled.
Where does Shanna Shryne Design work?
Shanna Shryne Design is based in Southern California, serving residential and commercial interior design clients throughout Los Angeles and the South Bay, including Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and Palos Verdes.
While many of our projects are local, we also work with clients coast to coast and welcome opportunities nationwide. From California to the East Coast and beyond, our process allows us to design thoughtfully and efficiently regardless of location.
What does your full-service interior design process look like?
Our design process is structured to ensure success from start to finish. Each phase is customized to the needs of the client and the scope of the project, but generally follows five key stages. Throughout every phase, communication and clarity remain central to how we work.
Conceptual Design
We begin by clarifying your goals, budget, and timeline. From there, we develop a cohesive design direction and present curated conceptual imagery and samples for review and approval.
Design Development
With the concept approved, we refine the details. This includes floor plans, elevations, furnishings layouts, and thoughtfully selected materials, all presented through clear, comprehensive design boards.
Purchasing & Procurement
Once selections are finalized, we prepare estimates, place orders, and manage vendor coordination to ensure everything is handled efficiently and accurately.
Expediting & Management
We track orders, monitor timelines, and oversee quality control while coordinating closely with vendors and trades to keep the project aligned and organized.
Installation & Follow Up
During installation, we coordinate deliveries and oversee placement so the vision comes together seamlessly. We complete each project by ensuring every detail meets our standards and our clients feel fully satisfied.

How involved does a client need to be?
Clients are involved where it matters most, especially during the early conceptual and decision-making phases. Once direction is established, many of our clients appreciate being able to step back and trust us to manage the details.
Our goal is to remove overwhelm, not add to it. We provide guidance, options, and expertise so decisions feel informed and manageable rather than stressful.
What’s something clients are often surprised by?
Many clients are surprised by how much coordination and detail go into creating a cohesive interior. From custom sourcing to lead times and logistics, full-service interior design involves significant behind-the-scenes management.
Clients are often relieved by how seamless the experience feels when every element is considered holistically instead of piecing decisions together independently.
What should someone prepare before hiring an interior designer?
It’s helpful to have a general sense of budget, timeline, and overall priorities before beginning. Inspiration is always welcome, but openness to professional guidance is equally important.
The most successful projects happen when there is trust in the process and a shared commitment to creating something thoughtful and lasting.

Why work with a full-service interior design studio instead of managing a project yourself?
Full-service interior design ensures that every element of a home works together. From layout and materials to furnishings and finishing details, each decision supports a larger, cohesive vision.
This approach saves time, reduces costly missteps, and results in a space that feels intentional from start to finish.
What makes working with Shanna Shryne Design a unique experience?
What sets us apart is our commitment to both design and experience. We prioritize clear communication, thoughtful planning, and a high level of care throughout every project.
Our work is refined but approachable, elevated yet comfortable. We design homes that reflect the people who live in them and stand the test of time, both aesthetically and functionally.
